Alan Rickman's Education Background

Alan Rickman is an English actor who was born on February 21, 1946. He was born in Hammersmith, London. He has one older brother, one younger brother, and one younger sister. He is best known for his performances in Die Hard, Dogma, and as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies. EDUinReview will now take a look at the education background of this talented actor and theatre director.
Rickman’s family was a working class family. His father died when he was eight years old, leaving his mother alone to raise their four children. Rickman attended Derwentwater Primary School in Acton. He was very skilled at calligraphy and watercolor painting and won a scholarship to Latymer Upper School in London, which is where he first became interested in drama. After Latymer, he attended Chelsea College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art. He then began a career as a graphic designer because he thought it was a more sensible career than acting.
Three years after graduating and starting his own graphic design studio, Rickman decided to pursue an acting career. He applied to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he studied Shakespeare and won several prizes for his acting skills.
Rickman’s first professional acting career was working with the Royal Court Theatre. He performed in many live plays, including As You Like It and Romeo and Juliet. He started acting in television shows in 1982 and started acting in movies in 1988. He started his role as Professor Severus Snape in 2001, and has portrayed the potions master ever since.
He has been nominated for and won several awards for his acting skills, including the TV Spike Scream Award for Best Ensemble for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for Something the Lord Made.

Rickman will appear on the big screen again on November 19, 2010, when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is released in the USA.
