Elton John's Education Background
Sir Elton Hercules John (Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight) was born March 25, 1947. John was raised in Pinner, Middlesex. His parents were Stanley and Shelia Eileen Dwight. His father was a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force. John attended Pinner Wood Junior School. He then was educated at Reddiford School and eventually Pinner County Grammar School. John attended Pinner County until the age of 17. He left school just prior to his A Level examinations. He left with intentions of pursuing a music industry career.
John’s musical talents began at an early age. He began playing the piano at age three. John was encouraged in his musical abilities by his mother. His father was not interested in his son’s music. In fact John’s father was barely present in his young son’s life. John was primarily raised by his supportive mother and his maternal grandmother. John’s education was enriched when he won a junior scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at age eleven. John was noted as being a model student for the next five years as he attended the music academy in London.
By the age of 15 John began playing in pubs with the help of his mother and new step father. These steps launched John’s career. By 1967, Reginald Dwight was officially Elton John, named after two of his favorite musicians, and he was on the fast track to fame. Throughout his career John has sold over 250 million records. His road has been colorful. As John is known for his extravagant stage performances, including attention grabbing costumes. John has also gained notoriety for his high profile celebrity parties.
However, the success in music is what he has the most accolades for. He has over 50 top 40 hits, seven consecutive No. 1 albums, 6 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Tony Award. John was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. All of these merits end him up on multiple lists, ranking him as one of the most successful musicians of all time.
