Jay-Z's Education Background

Shawn Corey Carter, better known by his stage name, Jay-Z, was born December 4, 1969. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. Jay-Z was raised by his mother, Gloria Carter in the Brooklyn neighborhood, Bedford-Stuyvesant. Jay-Z’s father abandoned the family when Jay-Z was 12 years old.
Jay-Z attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn until the school closed. Then he attended George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School in downtown Brooklyn. Following that school Jay-Z end up attended Trenton Central High School in Trenton, New Jersey. Jay-Z did not complete his high school education or receive a degree.
Having an interest in music from a very young age, Shawn Carter was known by the nickname “Jazzy” in his neighborhood and later that nickname morphed into the name, Jay-Z.
Jay-Z’s rise into a successful rapper and businessman began as he and his fellow rapper’s began collaborating on shows and pieces of work.
Eventually this road lead Jay-Z to become one of the most successful hip-hop artist and entrepreneurs in the United States. Jay-Z has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. He has received 13 Grammy Awards and many other additional nominations. Jay-Z is reported to have a net worth of over $450 million as of 2010.
Jay-Z’s business ventures are vast and successful Some of his endeavors include being the founder of the urban clothing brand, Rocawear. He also co-owns the 40/40 Club, an upscale sports bar that started in New York. He is also a part owner of the NBA team, The New Jersey Nets.
Jay-Z’s personal life has been very controversial throughout his career. His involvements with the law and criminal charges has littered his long career. Currently he is married to R&B celebrity, Beyonce Knowles. He continues to be among the most successful artist in the United States.
