Jennifer Lawrence's Education Background

Many have called Winter’s Bone Jennifer Lawrence’s “breakout role,” but the actor has been working on her career since the age of 14.
Lawrence was born on August 15, 1990 and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. She is the daughter of Karen and Gary Lawrence. She first began acting in church plays, and convinced her parents to take her to New York at the age of 14 to find auditions for talent agencies.
Because her parents were hesitant to let her quit school to act, Lawrence worked to graduate two years early from high school and earned a GPA of 3.9. She first appeared in several commercials and television movies. She co-starred in the cable show The Bill Engvall Show. Lawrence has appeared in several independent movies, including The Poker House, The Burning Plain and Winter’s Bone.
Lawrence adamantly defends the fact that she never studied acting. “I never did theatre or took classes, which I think has helped me,” she told The Globe and Mail‘s Johanna Schneller. “I just had instincts and they were right.” In the same interview, Lawrence says she does not have an acting “method” and hates “b.s. directing, like, ‘Imagine your puppy just died.’ ”
She does not currently have plans to attend college.
