John Boehner's Education Background

John Boehner was born November 17, 1949 and is the current Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. As the Speaker of the House, Boehner is third in line to the U.S. presidency, after the president and the vice president. EDUinReview will now take a look at his education background.
Boehner is the son of Mary Anne and Earl Boehner; he has 11 siblings. Boehner comes from a modest background. His entire family lived in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home in Cincinnati, Ohio. In order to make ends meet, Boehner started working in his family’s bar when he was only eight-years old.
Boehner graduated from Moeller High School in 1968. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy; however, he was honorably discharged after eight weeks because he had a bad back. He attended Xavier University and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1977. He was the first person in his family to attend and graduate college.
Boehner first became involved with politics in 1982, when he served on the board of trustees of Union Township, Butler County, Ohio. He then served as Ohio state representative from 1985 to 1990. He has also served as the House Republican Conference Chairman, chairman of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, and was a main backer of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. On November 17, 2010, he was chosen by a unanimous decision to be the Republican nominee for Speaker of the House. On January 6, 2011, he was chosen to be the new Speaker of the House.
