Mark Zuckerberg's Education Background

Mark Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984 in White Plains, New York. He is a computer scientist and software developer; however, perhaps what he is most famous for is creating Facebook. Earlier this year, the movie, The Social Network, took a look at Zuckerberg’s personal life and the creation of Facebook. Now, EDUinReview will take a look at his education background.
Zuckerberg is one of Karen and Edward Zuckerberg’s four children: Arielle, Donna, Mark and Randi. Although he was born in White Plains, he was raised in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Zuckerberg first began experimenting with computers and software programs when he was in middle school. He had a private tutor, David Newman, who helped him and has called Zuckerberg a “prodigy” because he was so skilled.
He attended Ardsley High School for his freshman and sophomore years. While at Ardsley, he excelled in the classics. His passion for classical works has stayed with him since then. On his college application, he said that he could read and write Hebrew, Latin, and ancient Greek, all of which are classical languages.

In his junior year of high school, Zuckerberg transferred to Phillips Exeter Academy, a co-ed boarding school. He continued to study the classics while at PEA, but he also started to dabble in the sciences.
While he was still in high school, he started his own company, Intelligent Media Group, and created the Synapse Media Player, a music player that learned the user’s listening habits. They product was reviewed by PC Magazine. Both Microsoft and AOL tried to purchase the music player and recruit Zuckerberg to work for them, but he decided to pursue other interests and enrolled at Harvard to study computer science and psychology in 2002.
In 2004, Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his dorm room. That summer, Zuckerberg and his friends moved to Palo Alto, California, in order to work on the new program. They planned to return to Harvard after the summer, but ended up staying in California to work on their growing company. The rest, as they say, is history.
On December 15, 2010, he was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. Other people who have received this honor include Bono, Bill Gates, Pope John Paul II, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, and Jimmy Carter. Congratulations to Mark Zuckerberg for joining this elite rank!
