Rick Santorum's Education Background

Rick Santorum is an American politician and lawyer. He has served in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. Recently, he announced plans to run for the Republican candidate for President of the United States in the 2012 election. EDUinReview will now take a look at Santorum’s education background.
Santorum was born on May 10, 1958, in Winchester, Virginia. His parents are Aldo and Catherine Santorum. Both of Santorum parents worked at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Butler, Pennsylvania. Santorum graduated from Carmel High School in Mundlein, Illinois, after his father’s career forced the family to relocate.
In 1980, Santorum graduated from Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a B.A. in political science; he was also an active member of the Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity. The next year he earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Santorum then attended the Dickinson School of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor. After law school, he joined the Kirkpatrick & Lockhart law firm. He worked in private practice until 1990, when he was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

When Santorum was 32-years old, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives to represent Pennsylvania’s 18th District. He was re-elected to the position in 1992. In 1994, he ran for and was elected to serve on the U.S. Senate. He was re-elected once again in 2000.
Santorum first hinted that he was planning on running for President during the 2012 election in fall 2009. On April 13, 2011, he formed a committee to explore his chances of winning the presidency. On June 6, 2011, Santorum made an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America, where he formally announced his decision to run for the Republican presidential nomination.
On a personal note, Santorum is married to Karen Garver Santorum. The couple has seven children: Elizabeth, Richard, Daniel, Sarah, Peter, Patrick, and Isabella. Santorum and his wife were made the Knight and Dame of Magistral Grace of the Knights of Malta at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. Santorum has written three books.
