Russell Brand's Education Background

Russell Brand is an English actor, author, singer, columnist, and comedian. He first became famous in the UK for his controversial radio show. He has starred in several films, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, and Despicable Me. His next film is Hop, in which he co-stars with James Marsden. EDUinReview will now take a look at Brand’s education background.
Brand was born in Essex, England. He is the only child of Barbara and Ronald Brand. When Brand was only six-months old, his parents separated and his mother raised him as a single mother. When he was eight-years old, his mother was diagnosed with uterine cancer, and later, breast cancer. His mother once again battled cancer when he was 16; it was at this time that Brand began using drugs and left school.

Brand attended Grays School Media Arts College and got his first taste of acting when he played Fat Sam in his school’s production of Bugsy Malone. He then applied to the Italia Conti Academy in 1991. He was expelled from the Academy for drug use and bad behavior. After the Academy, Brand was accepted to the Drama Centre of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art; however, by this point in his life, Brand was a heroin addict and an alcoholic. After one performance, Brand was so upset by the poor reactions that he received that he smashed a glass over his head and stabbed himself in the chest and arms. He was expelled from the school after this incident and decided to focus on comedy instead of acting.
Brand has been successful as a comedian and has released several DVDs, including Russell Brand: Scandalous and Eroticised Humour. He has had three nationwide tours. He also hosted several awards shows, such as the 2008 and 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
On a personal note, Brand recently married American singer, Katy Perry, on October 23, 2010. The couple met in 2008 but did not start dating until September 2009. Brand proposed to Perry in December 2009 and married in India in a traditional Hindu ceremony.
